Volunteer with the Perkins Pond Protective Association
Water Quality Testing
PPPA volunteers collect water samples from multiple locations around Perkins Pond at least three times each summer. Samples are analyzed at the Lake Sunapee Protective Association (LSPA) laboratory at Colby-Sawyer College.
Monitoring is conducted in collaboration with the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) and the Volunteer Lake Assessment Program (VLAP).

Weed Watchers
Weed Watcher volunteers are trained to monitor Perkins Pond for invasive aquatic species. Committee members regularly patrol the shoreline and near-shore areas to identify plants or organisms that are not native to the pond.
If any invasive species is detected, the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) is notified immediately so appropriate action can be taken to prevent its spread. You can learn more about invasive aquatic species in New Hampshire here.
Weed Watchers are also on the lookout for cyanobacteria blooms anywhere in the pond. Again, they will take water samples for analysis to NHDES and report the findings to the state and town.
